WASHINGTON (November 13, 2017) – MedStar Health is pleased to announce a partnership with EvidenceCare, a Nashville-based company with a novel online clinical decision support platform, to create and distribute new evidence-based treatment protocols for providers at MedStar and beyond.

MedStar will work with EvidenceCare to co-develop content in four clinical areas, which will be made available to MedStar Health’s provider network through its system-wide electronic health record platform, MedConnect. The content will encompass evidence-based clinical protocols for providers alongside tailored patient education content designed to enable patients to understand and be active participants in their care. The partnership will begin with the design of content for the urgent care setting, to be deployed in MedStar Health Urgent Care locations and made available via EvidenceCare’s publishing platform. Protocols will be deployed at the point-of-care in spring 2018.

“MedStar Health is committed to providing our patients with the highest quality and safest care. We are thrilled to be partnering with EvidenceCare to develop and deploy solutions that enable the most current and correct clinical practice and that allow patients to be active, informed participants in their care,” said Mark Smith, MD, chief innovation officer for MedStar and director of the MedStar Institute for Innovation, which houses MedStar Simulation Training & Education Lab (SiTEL).

With this partnership, MedStar furthers its reputation as a leader in developing innovative, relevant content for clinical learning and supporting the performance of its providers at the point of care. The partnership leverages the expertise of MedStar SiTEL, which provides clinical and patient education through a blend of online and face-to-face training, virtual and high-fidelity simulation, as well as performance support tools used during the delivery of care.

Integrating EvidenceCare’s content and technology with MedConnect will give MedStar providers quick access to the latest evidence-based clinical guidelines, ensuring that patients receive top quality care and are empowered to participate in shared-decision making with providers.

“Our product has been extremely well received over the past year, and we continue to add new features based on the needs of our users. This partnership with MedStar is exciting because it allows us to showcase the full capabilities of our product and partner with an innovative health system,” stated EvidenceCare’s CEO, Dr. Brian Fengler.

As part of the partnership, MedStar will be given a seat on the EvidenceCare board of directors to provide strategic advice and oversight; Bill Sheahan, corporate vice president for MedStar and director of MedStar SiTEL, will be representing MedStar in that seat.
