Catalyze Innovation that Advances Health

Annual Forum

What is an Innovations in..Thinking Differently Forum?

The Innovations in…Thinking Differently annual forum is a core initiative of the MedStar Institute for Innovation (MI2) that serves to bring together the brightest minds within the MedStar Health system. These forums provide a fresh perspective on innovation, a variety of presentations designed to inspire and excite, and facilitated discussions aimed at catalyzing innovation. The forums are also an opportunity for participants to network and engage in the creative energy of MedStar Health.

The goals of the forums are to:

  • Be Provocative: Our speakers put forth interesting, stimulating, and thoughtful ideas about innovation. It’s not only about thinking differently, but also thinking about different things.
  • Showcase MedStar Health: The forums feature the tremendous talent pool inside of MedStar Health and highlight the creative minds dispersed throughout our ten-hospital system.
  • Catalyze Change: The forums are intended to create ongoing conversations related to health innovation in order to affect change in the way we think and deliver healthcare.
NOTE: The views and opinions expressed in these videos are not those of MedStar Health and do not necessarily reflect the official policy or position of MedStar Health.

What’s the Forum All About?

On October 11, 2016, associates from across MedStar Health and special guests
convened to participate in MI2's 7th annual Forum.
The theme: “Altered States and Extreme Conditions”

2016 – Altered States & Extreme Conditions

Innovation is extra-ordinary, it represents discontinuity, a rent in the fabric of the way we always do things, a break from the status quo. What better place to find the extraordinary than in and at the extremes -- in the extremes of our own internal mental state ("Altered States" where the mind flows) and in the extremes of situational conditions and constraints ("Extreme Conditions", where necessity is the mother or invention).
